HR sub-section meeting: Speakers Rumana Monzur and Kerry Sheppard
Date(s) - May 9th, 2018
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Terminal City Club
We have a very special presentation planned for our May 9, 2018 HR sub-section meeting.
DLA Piper (Canada) articling student, Rumana Monzur, epitomizes courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. Rumana was a graduate political science student at UBC and an assistant professor at Dhaka University when she was attacked and blinded by her husband in her home country of Bangladesh. She had to start life over as a blind woman and a single mother. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in political science at UBC and then was accepted to the Peter Allard School of Law. Rumana is an advocate for women’s rights, someone who refused to let her dreams die, and uses her voice to effect positive change. She is a very powerful speaker.
We will have another exceptionally talented speaker present in Kerry Sheppard, Director of Student Programs for DLA Piper (Canada) LLP. Kerry first met Rumana during on-campus interviews at UBC, where he identified her as a potential student. Kerry will join the conversation and share his experiences working with Rumana during the recruitment process and during her time at the firm as a student.
