The Small Firms Subsection would like to invite you to attend our last meeting before we all head off for the summer. The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019, and will touch upon the topic of “Leading Difficult Conversations”.
Ever walk away from an exchange with a senior partner or other staff member frustrated that you aren’t able to get what you need from the discussion? This is one of the most common areas that many of us need help with — navigating difficult conversations with colleagues. Our wiring tends to sell us short in being able to navigate these situations effectively. Rather than avoid these conversations or that person, we want to build your confidence to be able to lead a difficult conversation to a successful outcome.
We will consider some typical obstacles to our “willingness” to lead a difficult conversation with someone. While recognizing that power and influence play a role, some battles may not be worth taking. We also need to know how to represent our interests in a situation. We will look at how to reframe key messages to be helpful, hopeful and inviting solutions, as well as look at how we can improve our listening skills.
Our guest speaker, Joanne Spalton of Haekka Leadership, is a Leadership Development Consultant, Facilitator and Coach.
Joanne has over 20 years of experience working with leaders inside organizations interested in improving what they are doing. She is proud to have worked for over 10 years as a leadership development consultant, facilitator and coach, across a range of industries — high tech, government, legal, software development, manufacturing, engineering, and not-for-profit, private, public and cooperative. Value and impact are the hallmarks of her work and that of Haekka Leadership.
Joanne is a fully trained coach through the Coaches Training Institute. She maintains a CHRP designation with the Chartered Professionals of HR BC. She holds a post-degree diploma from BCIT as well as a baccalaureate degree Political Science and English from the University of Victoria.
We are excited to hear from Joanne, a new presenter to the BCLMA and look forward to seeing you all there.
