Please join us for the Wage Subsidy & Other Payroll Issues webinar presented by the Canadian Payroll Association on November 19th at 10 AM.

The webinar will focus on the COVID-19 wage subsidy and other federal legislative updates. The Federal level of government has a significant impact on the lives of payroll professionals through the legislation and regulations that they have responsibility for. Nowhere has this been more evident than with what is taking place with the Federal government’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan. In this session, Steven will focus on updates from the Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada and what the impact is on payroll currently and in the future.

In addition, the last few years have seen a significant amount of change in many provinces relative to legislation and regulation impacting payroll. This was particularly the case with Employment and Labour Standards in many provinces across the country particularly in British Columbia. As a result of COVID-19, many employers had to pivot quickly in order to respond to legislative changes.  This session also focuses on permanent and temporary measures enacted by provincial governments, and their impact on payroll in British Columbia.

Speaker: Steven Van Alstine, CPM, CAE, Vice-President, Education

Steven Van Alstine is the Vice-President, Education for the Canadian Payroll Association and is considered one of Canada’s foremost subject matter experts in Canadian payroll legislation, training and education.

Currently, Steven oversees the Association’s Certification, Compliance Services and Programs, and Events and Regional Programs teams. In his over 23 years with the CPA he has lead teams and initiatives that have resulted in highly respected professional development and innovative payroll certification learning through a state-of-the-art learning management platform and in-person and online program delivery. His oversight also includes the delivery of the CPA’s highly regarded Payroll InfoLine, Certification Recognition Events, National Payroll Week and National Conference and Regional Symposiums.

Past contributions have included leading the CPA’s advocacy and government relations Councils, supporting research leading to the redevelopment and ongoing augmentations to payroll certification programs and participating in governance development and enhancements for the payroll profession.

Steven received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and History from Wilfrid Laurier University, holds the CPA’s CPM certification, and the CAE certification from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
