We are currently with BMC too and feel things have not been the same since they were bought out from Telus Fully Managed.

Our firm IT is outsourced with BMC Networks for our MSP and Azure management. We have not enjoyed their services as much as we used to ever since they were bought over by Telus Fully Managed. We are also looking at alternatives currently so thank you for raising this post!

We pay for Associates’ memberships (CBA/TLABC/VBA/etc.), and limited staff memberships (BCPA and BCLMA primarily).

We do allow additional unpaid time off, on a case-by-case basis, with no formal policy at present. The prevailing thought is that we’d rather deal with the inconvenience of a planned unpaid time off over the greater inconvenience of a short notice “sick” day.

Typically 5 days or less / year of unpaid days taken will not operationally impact the firm too much.

if the firm is very family orientated and the employee has to take some unpaid days for childcare… then it would behoove to allow this.
