Rana Law is seeking a Senior Paralegal or Legal Assistant with corporate experience. This position will be full time, working in our Vancouver office. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to prioritize workload for a unique corporate practice, with high attention to detail and quality work output.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively on projects, and comfortable working independently and directly with clients.
  • Ability to support multiple lawyers on corporate matters.
  • Ability to adapt to lawyers’ workload and learn new skills, as needed.
  • Ability to aid and provide training to legal administrative assistant and fills in for legal administrative assistant when required, covering general office administrative duties.
  • Demonstrated a high degree of competence with carrying out corporate legal tasks.
  • Completed legal, post-secondary or a combination of relevant legal education and training.
  • Strong technical skills, experience with law firm software, BC Online and BC LTSA.
  • Not less than 3 years of experience as a corporate paralegal or legal assistant.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist lawyers with transaction work such as incorporations, corporate reorganizations, filing name requests, dissolutions, notice of change in directors, partnerships, and society work.
  • Assist lawyers with annual maintenance such as filing annual reports, drafting resolutions and forms, obtaining financials from accountants, consents to act, and drafting client reporting letters.
  • Maintain minute books (digital and paper) and update share and director registers.
  • Manage list of corporate entities managed by firm.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain and distribute information/documents related to corporate and other work.
  • Draft standard corporate documentation.
  • Communicate with corporate and society registries and other government entities.
  • Daily updating and management of bring forward system for corporate files.
  • Draft, proof-read and format other legal documents on an as needed basis.
  • Conduct research related to corporate and other tasks, as assigned.
  • Conduct searches at Alberta and BC corporate and society registries, Personal Property Registry and Land Title Office.
  • Providing oversight and assistance to legal administrative assistant as required
  • Communicating with property management and others if legal administrative assistant cannot find solution or as directed by responsible lawyer
  • Preparing for arrival of new employees (computer, voicemail, key and fob, etc.)
  • Overseeing updating of Office Manual by legal administrative assistant
  • Formatting documents and assisting with solving difficult formatting issues as requested (both for YVR and YYC)
