BCLMA members are invited to join Employment & Labour partners, Dianne Rideout and Michelle McKinnon, of Cassels Brock Blackwell LLP on July 11, 2023, for a discussion on BC’s new pay transparency laws! Dianne and Michelle will be joined by compensation specialists, Annika Reinhardt (Talent Collective) and Laura Gale (White & Gale), to cover everything you need to know from a compensation and legal perspective.
What can you expect from this seminar?
This seminar will equip BC employers with practical information and resources to help them get ready and stay compliant. Attendees will receive The Ultimate Step-By-Step Guide to Get Ready for BC’s pay transparency laws, which will be shared with attendees after the seminar.
The Pay Transparency Act (the Act) officially became law in BC on May 11, 2023. Some sections of the Act have already come into force and others will be effective as of November 1, 2023:
• Since May 11, 2023, employers cannot ask job applicants about their pay history. Employers also cannot retaliate against employees for exercising their rights under the Act (for example, for disclosing their pay information to another employee or job applicant).
• Starting November 1, 2023, employers will be required to include salary or wage information in publicly advertised jobs and certain employers will have pay equity reporting obligations.
The presenters will cover the most pressing compensation and legal requirements:
• Elements to consider when creating salary ranges
• What to consider when accessing market data to build salary structures and ranges
• How to effectively communicate salary ranges internally and externally
• How to update employment policies and employment contracts to comply with the Act
• Privacy considerations in terms of collecting employee information
• Pay transparency reporting obligations
• Beyond the legal requirements, how transparency can positively impact your organization
