WHO WE NEED

We are looking for a Full-Time Trust Clerk to support our accounting department. Your goal will be to provide high-quality assistance to our lawyers and staff.

WHO YOU ARE

To be considered for this role we need you to possess the following attributes:

  • Education: Working towards a recognized certificate, degree or completion of Accounting Courses.
  • Skills: You must have Microsoft® Office application experience, superior organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. You will have the ability to handle a high volume of work with tight deadlines and have a keen attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are also required. Experience with Unity (formerly EsiLaw) is considered an asset.
  • Characteristics: You have a strong analytic skill set and are self-motivated and thrive on solving problems both independently and with the team. You have a willingness to take direction and seek instruction. You have a high degree of accuracy with a good eye for detail. You are a proactive self-starter who has a positive and energetic attitude while understanding the importance of discretion and client confidentiality. The position can be demanding, meaning that you need to be calm under pressure and eager to take on challenges. We take pride in the quality of our work, so we hope you do too.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will be an integral part of our accounting team, critical to the success of the lawyers of the firm. You will be responsible for:

Trust Accounting

  • Issuing trust cheques and trust transfers
  • Managing trust account transactions (deposits, withdrawals) including wire transfers, EFT’s, and cheques
  • Managing trust investment accounts, including creating, opening, and closing these accounts
  • Monitoring all pooled trust accounts and follow up on unclaimed deposits
  • Monitoring PTT withdrawals and posting accordingly
  • Posting TAF and preparing quarterly remittances to the Law Society of BC
  • Tracking and reporting any trust errors to the Law Society of BC
  • Managing term deposits
  • Preparing CDIC letters
  • Ensuring compliance with Law Society Rules and firm policies
  • Follow up with Lawyers and Staff on any inactive trust
