What you can expect:

We currently have an opening in our Langley office for an Estates Litigation Paralegal. This role requires an individual who has experience working with complex estates litigation files. The ideal candidate is effective at multi-tasking, handling changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and has strong communication skills. Depending on experience and knowledge, the core responsibilities of the role will be, but not limited to:

  • Drafting of court documents and all file related correspondence
  • Coordinating and preparing for discovery processes, hearings, trials, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Filing legal documents with the court and ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures
  • Communicating with clients and opposing counsel to prepare Pleadings, Agreements, Financial Statements and required documents
  • Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda, summaries, and reports to support case strategies.
  • Drafting wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements and estate documents
  • Arranging to retain services of accountants for income tax purposes regarding estates
  • Organizing and managing case files, case calendars, maintaining deadlines, and tracking important dates
  • Investigating claims of undue influence or lack of capacity related to a will or other estate planning documents
  • Managing the administration of estates, including gathering assets, paying debts, and distributing assets to beneficiaries.
  • Other tasks as assigned

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of paralegal experience in Litigation and Wills and Estates
  • Completion of a recognized paralegal program
  • Familiarity with WESA
  • Experience with iManage software an asset
  • Proficient with MS 365, particularly Word and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload to effectively deal with deadlines

Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000. The base pay offered may vary depending on job-related skills/knowledge, experience, and internal and market equity.
