Legal Administrative Assistant (Designated Support)
McEwan Partners is a leading boutique litigation firm in Downtown Vancouver founded by a group of industry-recognized litigators. Our practice is primarily in commercial, securities and public law, at trial and appellate levels.
We are currently looking for a full-time Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) to join our firm.
Unlike a traditional LAA position, this role is designed to directly support a senior Paralegal Assistant (PA) and help manage a busy commercial litigation practice. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior PA to share and coordinate workload, build efficiencies across teams, and deliver exceptional service. This structure provides a unique opportunity for dedicated mentorship and hands-on learning in all aspects of the LAA role.
As the firm grows, this position will eventually branch out and directly support lawyers. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented and genuinely highly motivated to elevate their skills in a dynamic, fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform legal assistant/paralegal duties in various areas of law for all levels of courts;
- Prepare correspondence and documents ensuring compliance with Rules of Court;
- Conduct file management, including preparing and maintaining binders/documents and filing as needed.
- Maintain a well-organized work environment and implement efficient processes that minimizes lawyers’ administrative load, including an active bring forward system.
- Coordinating bookings for meetings, mediations, discoveries, and hearings.
- Other duties/responsibilities as delegated.
Skills
- Thorough understanding of litigation legal procedures at different levels of court.
- Critical thinking skills, high level of initiative, and proactive approach to problem solving with tact and poise.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments, produce quality accurate work, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively and support a team environment.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Strong orientation to delivering a high-level standard of service.
- Superior organizational/document management skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment with competing demands.
- Flexible to accommodate work demands.
- Strong technical skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Adobe and iManage.
- Experience with Soluno, iManage and e-discovery software (Everlaw) is an asset.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years experience as a litigation LAA. Experience in commercial litigation is an asset.
Compensation
McEwan Partners offers a competitive compensation and benefits package as well as a diverse and supportive work environment.
- The base annual salary range for candidates with the required experience is $55,000 to $70,000.
