Description

We are an established growing small law firm located in downtown Vancouver with a practice focus in the areas of family law and estate law.

We are looking for a lawyer from 3 to 7year call to join our firm.  A background in family law or estate law is ideal; however we are open to lawyers with other experience who have a passion to learn family and/or estate law. The ideal candidate will be client focused and also have past experience in providing exceptional customer service and/or working with teams as we believe in adding value by collaborating with each other and other professionals, and by getting to know our client’s long-term goals and interests beyond the current legal dispute so we can work with them on legal strategies designed for the long-term.  The successful candidate will work with and be mentored by our primary senior counsel.  Bringing existing clients will be welcomed, but this is not required. This role requires that you have been called to the Bar of British Columbia, and that you have a desire to work with people, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, a desire to appear in court, and the willingness to work overtime and shift gears when urgent matters arise. Job Type: Full-time

Rate of Pay: TBD depending on call year, experience and if bringing an existing practice, bonus and benefits possible.

Work Style: Flexible, Blended in-office and remote work

Duties

  • All duties of legal including without limiting the foregoing:
  • Meeting with clients, witnesses, experts and other counsel.
  • Conducting legal research, analyzing law and developing legal argument to support case preparation and strategy development.
  • Review and analyze case files and evidence to identify key issues and develop effective legal arguments.
  • Preparing agreements and court documents and ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws.
  • Assist and supporting senior counsel in negotiations, preparing for meetings, preparing for and attending at court, and strategizing on case management.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Law Degree (LLB/JD) and called to the Bar of British Columbia.
  • Experience in Family and/or Estate law an asset.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong research skills, ability to identify key legal issues, and to develop strong legal arguments while also identifying anticipated counter-arguments.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
  • Project management skills are beneficial for tracking ongoing tasks and deadlines
  • Willing to continue to grow and develop negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a mutually supportive team environment while also taking initiative and being self-motivated to complete projects and run cases independently.
  • Desire to attend court hearings.
