Description
Harris & Company LLP (Harris) is one of the largest employer-side workplace law and advocacy firms in Western Canada. Our clients rely on us because we understand their business as well as the law.
Our marketing team is small, close, and hands-on, and we’re hiring a Marketing Specialist to take ownership of our events, presentations, and client-facing materials. If you catch the typo no one else sees, keep projects moving, and speak up early, we’d like to hear from you.
About the role
You’ll report to the Marketing Manager and work closely with our Marketing Coordinator. From day one, you’ll have real responsibility: you’ll lead events and projects from kickoff to completion, keep them on schedule, and keep the team informed without being chased.
What you'll own
- Events and seminars: Lead client seminars, educational sessions, and conferences from planning and registration through delivery and follow-up.
- Presentations and materials: Produce PowerPoint decks, ads, profiles, and social graphics to a client-ready standard. You proof everything (names, titles, dates, links, formatting) before it leaves your hands.
- Project management: Keep schedules, approvals, and files organized. Give the Manager regular status updates, raise risks early, and follow up with lawyers to get what you need on time.
- RFPs and proposals: Coordinate content, research, editing, and submission deadlines.
- Content and website:
Publish articles, lawyer profiles, and keep the website up to date. - Profile building: Manage awards, legal directory submissions and rankings, and speaking and publication opportunities.
- Administration: Manage sponsorships and donations, maintain the client database, and track marketing and business development KPIs.
- Improvement: Look for ways to make our systems, templates, and materials better, and act on them.
What success looks like
- By 30 days: decks and materials need minimal corrections.
- By 90 days: you run a seminar or event end-to-end independently.
- Ongoing: the Manager always knows where your projects stand without having to ask.
What you bring
- 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, business development, event planning, or project coordination. Exceptional candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership, making decisions, and asking questions early.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and professional communication skills.
- Advanced PowerPoint skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Canva Pro, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Professional office experience; legal experience is an asset but not required.
- Diploma or degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
Assets: Pheedloop, WordPress/Breakdance, HubSpot, Introhive, professional services experience.
How we work: This is an in-office role, with flexibility to work remotely occasionally when needed. Marketing needs to be on the ground to take on work and talk through projects with the team in real time, and responsibilities are shared across the team.
