Responsibilities and Duties:
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department
- Daily reconciliation of the firm’s general and trust bank accounts
- Open, manage, and post accrued interest on investment accounts
- Prepare monthly trust reports for all trust accounts
- Record TAF on trust receipts in compliance with Law Society rules and prepare quarterly remittances
- Prepare CDIC Reports
- Prepare T5s
- Ensure compliance with Law Society rules and firm accounting policies
- Financial management reporting
- Submit and post payroll
- Prepare and file GST, PST, WCB and EHT
- Create and post journal entries as required
- Send, receive, and post all wires
- Oversee preparation and circulation of month end productivity reports for lawyers
- Post and process accounts payable
- Process general and trust cheques
- Oversee and assist with client billing and collection
- Assist external accountants with preparation of year-end financials
- Work with the Office Administrator in the preparation of annual/monthly budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Qualifications:
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in a similar position within a law firm
- Full working knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
- Knowledge of the Law Society of BC Trust Accounting Rules
- Ability to prioritize and manage a high volume of work in a fast paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with Worldox, Soluno, and PC Law an asset
- Although not required an accounting designation would be considered an asset for this role
