What we need:
We are looking for a seasoned Legal Administrative Assistant (Casual/Temporary) to join our team. This is an in-office opportunity that would be well suited to an experienced litigation LAA/Paralegal open to a casual schedule, and available to assist with vacation and absence coverage (up to 10-day assignments at a time). The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of HR & Operations.
The ideal candidate:
- Is energetic, organized and punctual with a great attitude and an ability to multitask;
- Is very proficient using Word, Outlook, Adobe and Excel, and has good technical skills generally;
- Is familiar with the following (or similar) programs: Worldox, MS Teams, iPro and Soluno;
- Is fluent in English and has strong writing skills;
- Has a strong understanding of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules;
- Has completed a Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal program from a recognized institution; and
- Has 10+ years of previous litigation experience (including personal injury litigation).
Preference will be given to candidates who are enthusiastic, team-oriented, and willing to learn and grow professionally at our firm, even if they do not currently meet every one of the above requirements.
What you can expect your role to entail: Â
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Providing vacation, absence and over-flow (ex. trial preparation) coverage and support for legal support staff;
- Drafting, preparing and formatting letters, memos and correspondence as directed by lawyers;
- Opening and closing files;
- Maintaining client files and calendars for lawyers and efficiently using bring forward systems;
- Assisting in document preparation for proceedings in the BC Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada, as well as arbitration and mediation proceedings;
- Liaising with external clients and other professionals (such as courthouse staff and other counsel on litigation files) as required; and
- Providing back-up reception and office services coverage during the Receptionist’s breaks.
