Description

CR Lawyers LLP is a full-service law firm with four offices located in Campbell River, Comox, Courtenay and Ucluelet. We are currently seeking an eager and professional Accounting Administrator for our firm.

Reporting directly to the Partners and General Manager, the Accounting Administrator will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks in support of our growing firm and our day-to-day accounting deliverables. The successful candidate can expect to work in a positive environment that provides training, comradery, and support from both staff and lawyers. Responsibilities

  • Managing financial month-end processes, which includes ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, reconciling account balances, and preparing financial statements and management reports.
  • Managing trust & general bank accounts.
  • Managing accounts payables and receivables.
  • Management of accounting procedures including:
    • Receipting payments.
    • Posting to client accounts.
    • Cheque preparation.
  • Completing monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Managing monthly invoicing.
  • Filing provincial sales tax returns and provincial employer health tax returns.
  • Assisting with year-end reports to the accountant for the company and its related companies.
  • Assisting with compilation of information for tax return preparation.
  • Performing other related duties as may be assigned according to the needs and requirements of the firm and its clients.
  • Complying with and reporting to the Law Society of BC.
  • Participating in any required external audit requirements to ensure successful results and compliance.
  • Contributing to ongoing development of accounting policy, procedures, and operational strategies, including the review and implementation of process, software, and system changes.
  • Ensuring appropriate controls are in place for managing risk and maintaining compliance with applicable accounting practices and regulations per accounting, tax, and Law Society requirements.
  • Support for our Conveyancing department on real estate sales and purchases.
  • Support and administration of the firm’s accounting programs.
  • Basic technology support for our staff and lawyers.
  • Back up coverage for the Administration team.
  • Performing other related duties as may be assigned according to the needs and requirements of the firm and its clients.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in accounting or as a bookkeeper.
  • Experience with accounting software (such as Esilaw/Unity Accounting, QuickBooks, etc.).
  • Knowledge of trust accounting principles with respect to law firms.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a law firm is preferred
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Service-oriented with sound personal and professional judgement.
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including MS Excel, and an aptitude for learning new software and systems.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work well in a deadline driven environment.
  • Completion of relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of experience and training

This position is a full-time permanent role and will be based in-office Monday to Friday from 8:30-4:30 daily. Schedule flexibility is required and at times, some additional hours may be required to ensure client matters are completed within expected deadlines. The successful candidate should have a valid BC Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle.

We are offering a competitive salary between $50,000 to $60,000 depending on skills and experience along with a benefits package that includes:
