RBS is looking for an Accounting Clerk, with a focus on Trust Accounting, to add to our Vancouver accounting team, as we prepare for the eventual retirement of one of our valued long term staff members.  This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Posting trust transfers between files
  • Preparing  and managing trust account transactions (deposits, withdrawals, cheques), including wire transfers and EFT’s
  • Managing trust investment accounts including creating, opening, and closing these accounts
  • Monitoring all pooled trust accounts and follow up on unclaimed deposits or withdrawals
  • Monitoring PTT withdrawals and posting accordingly
  • Posting TAF and preparing quarterly remittances to the Law Society of BC
  • Tracking and reporting any trust errors to the Law Society of BC
  • Preparing annual PTA Attestations (CIDC) disclosure requirements for trust accounts
  • Ensuring compliance with Law Society rules and firm policies
  • Follow up with lawyers and staff on any inactive trust amounts
  • Monitoring outstanding Trust Cheques and following up when they are becoming stale-dated
  • Issuing Stop Payments
  • Posting Bank Service charges
  • Assisting accounting team with other accounting transactions and projects as needed.

Experience and competencies include:

  • 3 to 5 plus years’ experience preferred
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage a high volume of work, in a very fast paced environment
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required
  • Proficiency in MS Office, primarily Outlook & Excel
  • 3E accounting software knowledge preferred
  • Accounting principles and accounts payable/receivables preferred
  • Experience working in a law firm or other professional services an asset
  • Experience with The Law Society of BC Trust Accounting rules is desired

The ideal candidate must be professional, flexible, able to withstand pressure, able to prioritize and, able to multitask.  You are able to work independently but must also work well as part of a team. Must be a problem-solver and possess a very strong attention to detail.  This can be an extremely fast faced environment with tight deadlines, at times. The successful candidate must be operating at a high level and be expeditious albeit cautious, with their work output. A great attitude and sense of humor is a must (we like to have fun!)
