How You’ll Help Us Better Service Our Clients

Due to our continued growth, we are seeking to recruit a 5–7-year call Associate in our Commercial Real Estate practice group, with focused experience in commercial real estate transactions. If you have an interest in commercial real estate and would like to hone and apply your skillset to an economically resilient and diverse range of clients and projects, including some of the largest and most impactful developments on First Nations lands, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

For 19 consecutive years, our award-winning Commercial Real Estate Practice Group has been the most repeatedly named law firm on Business in Vancouver’s list of “Biggest Real Estate Deals in BC”. With several Lexpert-ranked partners in property development and leasing, we are set apart by our ability to comprehensively act for a diversified range of clientele, from mid-market investors and developers to iconic organizations, including Anthem, Beedie, MST Partnership (Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation, Tseil-Waututh Nation), TELUS, UBC Properties Trust, Vancouver Coastal Health and the Vancouver Airport Authority.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is an ideal opportunity if you desire to be part of one of the Vancouver legal community’s premier commercial real estate groups. In addition to working with top-tier clients shaping BC’s real estate industry, you will have the opportunity to work with leading experts on interesting and challenging commercial real estate projects involving Higher Learning institutions, syndications, seniors housing, health and transportation authorities, etc. Moreover, you will be an integral team member acting as counsel on some of the largest and most innovative Indigenous-owned and led real estate development projects in North America, which will result in transformational economic empowerment and housing opportunities for First Nations communities.

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:

  • commercial leasing, for both landlord and tenants;
  • drafting and negotiating partnership, co-ownership and joint venture agreements;
  • drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements;
  • assisting with financing arrangements for a variety of investment and development projects;
  • Land Title Office filings, including those relating to subdivision and strata plan filings;
  • working on commercial real estate property development, including drafting disclosure statements and municipal agreements;
  • due diligence searching, analysis, reporting and problem solving; and
  • structuring real estate acquisition, disposition and financing transactions.

How You’ll Be a Great Fit for This Role

We seek someone who is a solid team player, genuinely passionate about real estate (and working closely with clients who are equally passionate about real estate!), keen to learn, and not afraid of creativity and innovation. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • the ability to handle the volume and inevitable quick deadlines of a busy practice;
  • excellent organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail;
  • the ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, confidentiality, solve problems, and handle a high level of responsibility;
  • strong analytical and drafting skills; and
  • a great sense of humor.

The Exciting Extras

In addition to a competitive salary of $160,000 – $190,000, we provide a comprehensive benefits package to help you thrive at work and at home:

  • Health Coverage: Medical, dental, vision, prescriptions, paramedical services, life insurance, and overseas emergency medical care.
  • Pregnancy & Parental Leave: Top-up benefits to 100% of salary for a portion of your leave.
