WHO WE NEED

You will exclusively support our Commercial Lending department. Your work will help fuel the success of our team and our clients, and you will be provided with support to develop your skillset within the legal profession.

WHO YOU ARE

To be considered for this role, your application should demonstrate the following:

  • Experience: 3-5+ years as a Paralegal working in commercial lending matters for major financial institutions at a reputable law firm. Due to the nature of this specialized contract role, Paralegals not having direct commercial lending experience will not be considered.
  • Education: A paralegal certification from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Skills: You must have a strong working knowledge of law firm office procedures; proficiency with typical law office computing systems (Microsoft Office applications, Worldox, BC Online, Unity), superior organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to handle a high volume of work with tight deadlines and keen attention to detail. Having experience or a general understanding of HotDocs, which we use for document generation in commercial lending matters, is considered an asset.
  • Characteristics: You should be self-motivated and thrive on solving problems both independently and with the team. You are a proactive self-starter who has a positive and energetic attitude. You understand the importance of exercising discretion and confidentiality and can adapt to ever-changing responsibilities. WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will be an integral part of our commercial lending team, critical to the success of both the lawyers you work with and our clients. Along your journey of providing invaluable assistance to our clients with their challenges, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing and administering commercial lending files
  • Preparation of loan documents based on templates for major banks and credit unions in accordance with their instructions and outlined requirements.
  • Conducting BC Online searches (title searches, BC assessments, company searches, etc.) as needed.
  • Communicating with financial institutions, borrower’s counsel and others as required in a timely fashion.
  • Liaising with legal assistants, paralegals, and lawyers on file progress.
  • Preparing solicitor’s legal opinions, reporting letters and ensuring key closings dates and tasks are diarized.
  • Completing any other administrative duties as requested/required.

SALARY RANGE

  • Equivalent to $60,000 to $80,000 per annum, prorated for contract period; salary commensurate with appropriate skills and experience.
  • The initial contract length is for 1 month, but renewable for an additional month dependent on the firm’s needs
