As our Firm has grown, we are adding a Controller to our busy Vancouver Accounting team.

Reports to: Director of Finance
Role Summary: The Controller will be a key member of the accounting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing full cycle accounting, analysis, reporting, forecasts, assisting with the development of policies and procedures, compliance and, producing financial statements for the Firm. They are also responsible for assisting with other daily accounting activities as needed, along with their colleagues in the department, when times are busy or team members are away. This is an ideal role for someone who is looking to grow and be mentored by an experienced leader who loves to teach, while working in a supportive, dynamic and fun environment.
Responsibilities: - Contribute to full-cycle accounting and banking, across multiple companies, including the preparation of financial statements - Observe and implement relevant internal controls, policies, and procedures – Ensure compliance with the Law Society and other government/bodies - Assist with cash flow monitoring and provide regular forecasts - Assist with tax compliance and assist external accountants in financial audits - Support budget preparation (operating and capital), forecasting, and monitoring activities - Assist with the development and improvement of reporting including key performance indicators, management reports and dashboards, in order to provide accurate and timely analysis for decision-making and operational improvements - Assist with various compliance requirements - Participate in orientation and training for new lawyers and staff, as it relates to accounting policies and procedures – Create financial models – Perform complex analysis - Prepare reports for stakeholders – Various financial projects – Recommends improvements and proficiencies re: systems, procedures and processes – Assist in developing and monitoring key performance indicator for accounting functions – Coach and develop staff where appropriate – Foster a culture of excellence. Other tasks and duties as required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: - Strong working knowledge of computer software applications (primarily Excel and Outlook); ability to grasp new technology; knowledge of legal accounting software is considered an asset - Strong technical knowledge of accounting and tax - Desire to learn and grow, and be an integral part of a high-performing team - Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills - Excellent communication and collaboration skills - Ability to identify key information and issues, and suggest viable options - Strong financial analysis skills a must – Exceptional attention to detail and ability to juggle competing demands is also a must. Ability to work in a team but also independently is required. Must be calm under pressure and possess a great sense of humour. (We like to have fun!)
Education and experience: - CPA designation (or in progress) is required. Minimum of 5 years' experience in an accounting department. Management experience an asset.
