Finance Manager

Role Overview

Our Finance Manager will provide guidance and hands on managerial support to the finance department for full-cycle accounting tasks and responsibilities in collaboration with our Finance Partner, and other members of the law firm on all finance-related matters to ensure the firm’s financial sustainability and contributions to the meaningful work we do to advance the practice of Aboriginal law.

This position is located on-site, in our Victoria, BC office location to provide parental leave coverage for a minimum one-year term. 

1. Oversee all financial operations, including planning, resourcing and training.
2. Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end reconciliations, reports, and filings.
3. Measure, review, and report on Key Performance Measures.
4. Prepare, amend and track cash flow spending against the approved annual budget.
5. Provide annual review calculations for billing rates, salaries, targets, and bonuses.

4. Able to cultivate positive and productive working relationships with comfortable and confident collaborations among high-level managers and partners.
5. Technical competencies:
6. Advanced use and knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint).
7. Familiarity with accounting software and document management systems.
8. Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities, businesses, or organizations would be considered an asset.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate for this position meets the following requirements:

1. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA or equivalent) designation is preferred. 
2. A bachelor's degree in accounting is preferred. However, a degree in business administration, economics, or other related discipline may be considered if accompanied by significant accounting experience.
3. Canadian work experience in a financial management position (3 to 5 years) with familiarity of the legal services industry or similar professional services, preferred.
4. Experience overseeing accounting activities and responsibilities of a dynamic and collaborative finance team to ensure productivity and management of workflow. 
5. Extensive use of a computer with advanced technical skills will be required.
6. Open to continuous learning and experiences working with Indigenous nations, communities, businesses, and organizations will be required.
