Position Status: Permanent, part-time (one 6-hour shift per week, location will vary)

Hourly Rate: $25.85 (plus mileage)
Regular part-time positions receive benefits, including access to an Employee Assistance Program and a health spending account.

About Courthouse Libraries BC

Courthouse Libraries BC (CLBC) is seeking a permanent, part-time Library Assistant for various locations, including Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River and Port Alberni.

CLBC is a province-wide independent not for profit society. Our vision is that everyone in BC has ready access to the legal information and resources they need. CLBC provides the legal community and public with legal resources, librarian expertise and informed referrals, to help people research and manage their legal issues.

We are looking for a team member to provide the best client support possible in a welcoming and inclusive environment in our libraries. You will support the day-to-day functioning and maintenance of the library and be part of our province-wide Frontline Services team that serves clients throughout the province.

We are looking to increase our coverage for several of our locations, including Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River and Port Alberni and working hours you may be scheduled include:
• Nanaimo - Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm
• Courtenay – Tuesdays, from 9:00am to 3:30pm
• Campbell River – third Friday of the month, from 9:00am to 3:30pm
• Port Alberni – Wednesdays, from 9:00am to 3:30pm

What You’ll Be Doing
• General maintenance of the library, including processing of materials, shelving books, and circulation duties.
• Making referrals to other resources.
• Assisting both public and lawyer clients with accessing computer-based information.

What You’ll Need

• Completion of Grade 12 is required.
• Previous experience serving the public.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to all four locations (Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River and Port Alberni).
• Available to take shifts during working hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm)
• Formal library training or library experience is preferred. Candidates with legal training will also be considered.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working as the only library employee in the library.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to assist both public and lawyer clients with computer-based research.
• Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 30lbs.
• Eligible to work in Canada.
• Interest in providing access to justice for all members of our community and a desire to incorporate anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion practices in your work.
