Paralegal – Family Law

To support our growing operations, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Paralegal to join our Family Law department. The ideal candidate will display professionalism, empathy, initiative, and attention to detail.

This role involves preparing and processing legal documents which includes independent drafting. This role requires a proactive individual who can handle complex tasks, collaborate effectively with internal and external parties, and prioritize client relations. Responsibilities

  • Supporting a team of lawyers practicing Family law
  • Responsible for progression of file
  • Draft, review, and finalize Separation Agreements, Adoption Documents, Cohabitation Agreements and Divorce Documents based on mediated outcomes
  • Draft court documents
  • Legal research
  • Liaise with clients to gather necessary information and ensure all documents are accurate and complete
  • Stay up to date with changes to family law and court procedures relevant to separation and divorce
  • Manage document filing and assist clients in navigating the filing process, both online and in court.
  • Maintaining a diary and BF system
  • Liaise with legal assistants, paralegals, and lawyers as required
  • General administrative duties as required.

 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience as a Family Law Paralegal
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited post-secondary institution, or equivalent education and experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and flexibility to learn internal computer systems and processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Provincial Court Family Rules, Supreme Court Family Rules, Family Law Act, Divorce Act and court procedures and filing deadlines
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships by working collaboratively in a team setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Empathy and discretion when dealing with sensitive client matters

  • Competitive compensation: The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $90,000 per annum. Within this range, individual pay is determined by market rates, job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

Hours of Work

This position is Monday to Friday starting at 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This is a 7-hour paid day, 35-hour work week.
