Description

Slater Vecchio is a well-known law firm based in Vancouver with a growing Montreal office.  We are looking for a Research Assistant to work with our rapidly growing class action practice group.  The Research Assistant is responsible for providing research and administrative support.

Specific duties and responsibilities 

  • Conduct research for existing and new potential class actions including reviewing US filed actions and news, competition bureau and foreign competition and regulatory authority decisions, Canadian regulator decisions and reports, Recalls Canada and Motor Vehicle Recall database and others;
  • Assess class action viability including performing corporate searches and assessing possible class size and damages;
  • Collect, sort and categorize evidence for certification and implement in an affidavit format, including freedom of information requests, public documents, reports and other;
  • Assist with managing email and phone inquiries from the public and from potential class members;
  • Assist team in drafting pleadings, arguments and notices of civil claim, as needed;
  • Assist with preparing application records and books of authorities, as needed;
  • Maintain Class Action deadlines and document database;
  • Tracking information and accumulation of data and preparing reports on same;
  • Assist lawyers and paralegals with administrative duties including creating binders and file management, as needed.

Education and Experience

Graduation from a Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal Program from an accredited college or a Diploma/Degree in Criminology, or other, is an asset.  3-5 years of experience in a research or legal support role.

Knowledge and Skills

 Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to conduct research independently and without direct instruction;

  • Confident and dependable, with strong ability to work both independently and in a team;
  • Exceptional flexibility and adaptability to an ever changing work environment;
  • Passionate about providing superior client service;
  • French language skills a definite asset.
