We do not have a scent free policy. During new hire orientation, we discuss the importance of using fragrances sparingly and why. That said, it is still a challenge and we occasionally have to speak with folks individually and/or send email reminders out office-wide regarding scent sensitivities in the workplace.

I can recommend Diane Cronk: http://arlynrecruiting.com/about-diane-cronk/. I have referred friends and colleagues to her and all have been very pleased.

Hi Karen,
We are also on the honour system and have a practice similar to RBS. -

Hi Josh,
Travelling Coaches presented via webinar to the HR Subsection back in 2014. Julia Montgomery was the facilitator and spoke to the changing role of the legal assistant. It was an excellent session.Elizabeth Jackson

Hi Alison,
Farris is closed on all of these days. To the best of my knowledge, we have never contemplated remaining open on November 11th.Elizabeth

Hi Shakti,
We don’t have a policy on this per se. The less notice given, the less likelihood a float can be provided. If the lawyers being supported are ok with the short notice and don’t require coverage in the assistant’s absence, then it isn’t an issue. On the flip side, we’ve had people book time off with more than 12 months’ notice, and this hasn’t caused a problem either.

Our policy is similar to Kornfeld. Any regular full-time or part-time employee is eligible for a paid Jury Duty leave of absence and any compensation paid to the employee by the Court must be signed over to the Firm upon receipt, with the exception of any travel allowance received.

Throughout that week, Farris hosts many personal development workshops, social events, catered meals, games and draws. We are still working out this year’s agenda but it should be great!

Same with Farris. We don’t have a policy in place but our building is non-smoking (aren’t they all now?).

This issue (closing January 2nd) has not yet been discussed at Farris. Consideration will be given though, probably late fall.
