BCLMA Educational Event: Proactive Resilience – building Your Firm’s Business Recovery Plan – Thursday, October 15th
Date: Thursday, Oct 15, 2026
Time: 11:45am
Location: Skidmore Room, Terminal City Club, 837 West Hastings Street, Vancouver BC V6C 1B6
Putting together a Business Recovery Plan is rarely an “urgent” task for law firm leaders … until that horrible moment when it is desperately needed and isn’t there.
For law firms in particular, unplanned disruptions can cause immediate and long-term harm to client relationships and file outcomes, create professional responsibility risks, result in significant unplanned losses and expenses, and be highly disruptive and distressing for firm members. Yet despite these risks, most law firms have no plan in place to limit disruption or expedite “return to normal” operations.
This session is designed for BC law firm administrators and office managers (particularly those focused on Operations, HR and IT) who are responsible for keeping the firm running — before, during, and after disruption. Content is particularly geared to firms that have never built (or tested!) a plan and for firms that need to update an existing one.
We are proud to have this session led by Carina Bittel.
Carina is an experienced strategy and leadership advisor working with law firms throughout Canada. Her practical approach draws on over 25 years of experience with law firm management, including eight years as Chief Operating Officer at one of Vancouver’s largest law firms. As an Advisor with The Lawyer Coach since 2022, her practice is focused on strategic planning initiatives and leadership advice, particularly for leaders in partnerships facing a time of significant change, challenge or transition, and firms who are “stuck” and looking to pursue their unique next level.
If your firm does not have a current and tested plan, this one-hour session will give you the tools you need to tackle this project! Topics will include: 1. Common small, medium and large-scale disruption scenarios to consider for law firms in BC, and their potential impact. 2. How to get started assembling a Business Recovery Plan for your firm. 3. Key elements your Plan needs to include. 4. Plan evaluation, and investment cues. 5. Special considerations for small and medium-sized firms. 6. Testing, review and maintenance best practices to keep your plan relevant.
