Professional Development Series — Lunch and Learn Series Opener

BC Legal Management Association (BCLMA) and BC Paralegal Association (BCPA) are pleased to launch a new professional development series exploring the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the legal profession.

Kicking off the series on September 16, 2026, this introductory session will feature an expert panel discussing the opportunities, challenges, and practical implications of AI in the legal workplace.

Designed as a starting point for legal professionals at all levels of AI familiarity, this session will provide an accessible overview of how AI is changing the legal profession, where it may offer practical value, and what legal professionals should consider as they begin navigating this rapidly evolving technology.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear perspectives from professionals working directly in AI, legal technology, legal operations, e-discovery, and legal innovation, while gaining a broader understanding of the opportunities and considerations surrounding AI in today’s legal workplace.

This session will serve as the opening installment of the BCPA and BCLMA’s AI professional development series, with subsequent sessions taking a deeper dive into different aspects of AI within the legal profession.

BRANDI PACK
Director of Innovation, UpLevel Ops

Brandi Pack is the Director of Innovation at UpLevel Ops, where she brings a bold, visionary approach to the intersection of legal technology, artificial intelligence, and operational strategy.

Brandi leads the firm’s Generative AI (GAI) Management Program and plays a pivotal role in shaping future-forward solutions for UpLevel’s Advisory Team and its clients. She also heads UpLevel’s AI Enablement Services, delivering scalable, secure, and strategic AI-powered tools that help legal teams turn emerging technologies into lasting operational value.

A frequent speaker and advisor on legal AI adoption, Brandi is known for making cutting-edge technology accessible, actionable, and impactful.

Her background spans legal operations, project management, and IT, including strategic roles at Hewlett-Packard, Constellation Brands, and Goodwill Industries. Her passion for AI innovation was sparked in 2022 when she gained early access to GPT-4 and recognized its transformative potential for the legal field.

Brandi holds a Bachelor of Science in General Business from the University of Oregon and multiple professional certifications. She is committed to thoughtful innovation and helping legal teams stay ahead in the rapidly evolving world of legal technology.

 

BRANDON HASTINGS
Partner, Northpoint Legal LLP | Lawyer & Mediator

Brandon Hastings is a partner at Northpoint Legal LLP and a Vancouver-based lawyer, mediator, and writer whose work spans litigation, dispute resolution, legal technology, and access to justice.

He holds an LLM in Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship from Cornell Law School and regularly writes and presents on artificial intelligence, legal innovation, ethics, and the thoughtful adoption of technology in legal practice.

Brandon also co-founded Vancouver Legal Hackers and created The Justice Hack, British Columbia’s largest legal-technology hackathon.

His work explores the intersection of law and emerging technology, with a focus on thoughtful and practical approaches to innovation, legal practice, and access to justice.

 

ANN HALKETT
Director, SOLVED eDiscovery Services

Ann Halkett is the Director of SOLVED eDiscovery Services, a division of Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP, and has been a senior paralegal with extensive experience in e-discovery, litigation technology, information governance, and legal technology.

Ann holds the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (CEDS) certification and was part of the team that drafted the ACEDS Canada certification manual and exam. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the International Legal Technology Association and is a former President of the ACEDS Vancouver chapter.

Her credentials include a Certificate in AI & Law from Queen’s University, a Certificate in E-Discovery, Information Governance and Privacy from Osgoode Hall Law School, and a Certificate in Project Management from UBC Sauder School of Business, in addition to a BA from the University of Victoria, a certificate in Journalism from Langara College, and paralegal certificates from Vancouver Community College.

Ann has worked with and is certified in several eDiscovery software platforms and co-developed and taught the Electronic Evidence and Litigation Technology course in the Paralegal Program at Vancouver Community College.

She works with and is consulted on a wide variety of systems and technologies, from evidence collection and management to trial presentations. She is a member of the Innovation Committee at her firm and creates and maintains standards and best practices for using litigation support solutions.

Ann is the past chair of the BC Legal Management Association’s Litigation Technology & eDiscovery and Information Technology Subsections and has presented at seminars for the Canadian Bar Association, CLEBC, and international conferences.
