The Opportunity:

MB is seeking an experienced Paralegal for our downtown Vancouver location for a 16 to 18-month term.

As a paralegal you will be an integral part of the MB team, working closely with our lawyers to ensure our clients receive the professionalism and support they expect from our firm. This role is on a team of experienced paralegals and legal assistants supporting a lawyer with a broad personal injury practice.

You take pride in your ability to multi-task, to keep file action items and correspondence moving forward at a timely pace and can independently run files. You are comfortable with numbers and accounting for disposition calculations upon resolution of a case and are comfortable with legal platforms as we continue to move towards a paper-free environment. You also enjoy contributing to a positive and collaborative work culture.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Regular client and external party interaction via phone, e-mail, letters, and in-person meetings
  • Preparing initial client documents including, for example, authorizations to obtain records
  • Drafting, finalizing, and filing pleadings
  • Preparing documents in accordance with the Supreme Court Civil Rules, such as lists of documents
  • Drafting, filing and arranging for Chambers applications
  • All duties related to Trial, such as scheduling and coordinating witnesses, document management, preparing PowerPoint presentations, Jury Trial preparation and subpoenas
  • Document collection and management
  • Administrative duties related to scheduling examinations for discoveries, mediations, booking independent medical examinations, payment of invoices, compiling lists of special damages, preparing bills of costs, filing documents, organizing files, and opening and closing files
  • Other paralegal and/or administrative tasks as required

The experience you will bring:

  • Successful completion of a Paralegal program from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of experience as a litigation Paralegal
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • An ability to multi-task within an ever-changing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to take initiative and meet deadlines
  • An ability to handle complex calculations for disbursement of trust funds
  • Strong MS office skills (including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint), Soluno, and experience working with Primafact is an asset

This full-time position is a key in-office role, and the salary is anticipated to be between $70,000-$95,000—depending on the candidate’s qualifications—plus excellent employer-paid benefits.
