How You’ll Help Us Better Serve Our Clients
We are seeking a Director, Marketing & Business Development to help lead the next stage of the firm’s marketing, brand, communications, and business development work.
This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role that will help to grow the firm’s profile in the market, deepen client relationships, and ensure our messaging is clear, consistent, and reflective of who we are. The Director will lead a small team and work closely with lawyers, practice group leaders, firm leadership, and colleagues across the firm to develop thoughtful, practical initiatives aligned with our long-term goals.
This role is well-suited to someone who brings strong business judgment, creativity, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach. The successful candidate will be able to see the bigger picture while also understanding the importance of strong execution, follow-through, and attention to detail.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Helping shape the firm’s marketing and business development direction
- Lead the development and execution of the firm’s marketing, communications, brand, and business development strategy.
- Work with lawyers and firm leadership to identify priorities, opportunities, and areas for growth.
- Provide practical advice on client development, market positioning, and marketing initiatives.
- Use data and reporting to help track activity, measure outcomes, and inform decisions.
- Ensure marketing and business development efforts are aligned with the firm’s broader goals and values.
Supporting business development and client relationships
- Work closely with lawyers and practice groups on business development planning and client-focused initiatives.
- Assist with client targeting, relationship-building efforts, and cross-practice opportunities.
- Monitor market and industry developments to identify opportunities for client outreach.
- Help lawyers develop and execute practical business development plans.
- Support business development coaching and help build confidence, consistency, and follow-through across the firm.
Strengthening our brand, communications, and market presence
- Oversee the firm’s brand, communications, and marketing initiatives.
- Lead the development of high-quality client-facing materials, including pitches, proposals, presentations, award nominations, and other marketing content.
- Ensure the firm’s messaging is clear, consistent, professional, and reflective of who we are.
- Oversee digital marketing, media relations, advertising, internal communications, and content strategy.
- Support thought leadership, campaigns, events, sponsorships, and other initiatives that enhance the firm’s reputation and visibility.
Bringing initiatives to life
- Oversee the planning and execution of marketing and business development campaigns, events, sponsorships, and other firm initiatives.
- Use CRM, business intelligence, and other tools to assist with client targeting, track business development activity, and measure results.
- Support budget planning, tracking, and reporting to ensure marketing spend is thoughtful and aligned with business priorities.
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives, including onboarding, CRM adoption, experience management, and improved use of marketing and business development tools.
- Look for ways to improve processes, increase consistency, and deliver strong service delivery to lawyers and practice groups.
Leading and developing the team
- Lead and develop the marketing and business development team.
- Set clear priorities and help ensure the team is focused, supported, and working effectively.
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented approach within the department and across the firm.
- Work closely with colleagues in Finance, People & Culture, Legal Support Services, Office Services, IT, and other teams to support a coordinated approach.
- Model sound judgment, professionalism, care, and accountability.
How You’ll Be A Great Fit:
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, and/or business development, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Experience leading, supporting, and developing a team.
- Experience managing budgets, tracking spend and providing clear reporting on marketing and business development investments.
- Strong understanding of business development and how professional services firms build relationships and grow.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail, tone, and audience.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
- A practical, proactive, and collaborative approach to solving problems and moving work forward.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
- Comfort using data, CRM, business intelligence, and marketing tools to track activity and support decision-making.
- An interest in continuous improvement, teamwork, and service.

What We Offer
The expected salary range for this role is likely to be between $140,000 and $190,000, with the final salary determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity.
