Description

RBS is looking for an intermediate Family Law Paralegal/LAA (hybrid), to join our busy team. This position will be located in our Vancouver office. Duties consist of providing administrative and paralegal assistance to a partner and an associate, in a very busy and fast-paced family law practice, within a mid-sized corporate/commercial regional law firm.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Preparing and drafting various court documents and pleadings, including lists of documents and financial statements; filing court materials, and assembling binders for court.  Assisting with the preparation of court applications, trial briefs, application records & trial exhibits.
  • Drafting correspondence and assisting clients in completing forms.
  • Liaise with opposing counsel, opposing parties, and the courts; managing the scheduling of appointments and court matters including setting court dates, mediations, discoveries, trials and communicating with court registries and opposing counsel
  • Arranging court filings and applications
  • Tracking/diarizing court and limitation dates
  • Maintaining lawyer/s calendars, scheduling client appointments, email management, maintaining a bring forward (“BF”) system
  • File management (opening and closing); managing conflict searches
  • Monthly billing (Mira- 3E); processing payments including retainers (and drafting retainer letters)
  • Regular interaction with clients
  • General administrative duties, as required

Qualifications

  • a minimum of 3-5 plus years experience working in a busy law firm, preferably within a family law and litigation environment
  • have excellent computer skills including experience with MS Office, FileSite (DMS) and Divorcemate
  • be extremely reliable and able to work both independently and as a team member
  • be able to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure, in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • possess excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • have strong analytical and organizational skills
  • have a strong work ethic, be proactive in nature and show keen initiative
  • possess compassion and extreme confidentiality
