Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper with law firm experience to manage the firm’s day-to-day financial operations. This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy of both general and trust accounting, compliance with Law Society requirements, and smooth financial operations across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records for general and trust accounts
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Manage client billing, disbursements, and collections in coordination with lawyers, paralegals and legal assistants
  • Perform daily and monthly trust account reconciliations in compliance with Law Society rules
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and trust ledgers
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports
  • Manage payroll processing and related remittances
  • Prepare and file GST/HST and other regulatory filings
  • Support month-end and year-end close, including coordination with external accountants
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records
  • Ensure compliance with legal accounting standards, internal controls, and confidentiality requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or certification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or related field
  • 2–5+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Solid understanding of law firm trust accounting rules
  • Experience with legal accounting or practice management software (e.g. Clio)
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and client information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Preferred Assets

  • Experience with Law Society audits or compliance reporting
  • Knowledge of legal billing practices and disbursement handling
  • Payroll experience in a professional services environment
