A Day In The Life

The Legal Assistant contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations by providing clerical and administrative support to our lawyers. This is done through exceptional practice management and client service, the ability to successfully handle competing priorities, and a high degree of confidentiality and discretion. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Handle all administrative duties such as email and calendar management, coordinating meetings, attending to conflict searches and file opening/closing, preparing expense reports, engagement letters and routine correspondence etc. 
  • Prepare and maintain a bring-forward system, as well as provide appropriate reminders
  • Ensure all physical and electronic filing is organized and up to date on a regular basis
  • Liaise with Billing Coordinators for the monthly production of accounts 
  • Provide backup coverage in the absence of other assistants or team members
  • Perform conflict searches, opening files, completing client identification/verification and preparing retainer letters
  • Conduct basic online searches (Wills registry, municipal tax, corporate registry, land title office, etc.)
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of estate, trust and corporate documents and records
  • Communicate with clients and potential clients to collect information, schedule meetings and answer client inquiries
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant or Paralegal course
  • A minimum of 3+ years’ working experience (large firm experience preferred) in Wills and Estates or Corporate
  • Experience with BC Online, BC Registries, MyLTSA, ALF is an asset
  • In-depth understanding of business and legal terminology
  • Strong technical skills using Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience working with 3E, iManageWork, DocuSign

Compensation

The typical salary range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
