RBS is recruiting for an experienced LAA/legal assistant to join our litigation team in Vancouver, to primarily assist a busy Partner, who practices in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group and is a key member of the firm’s management committee. Her practice is focused on Commercial Leasing, Real Estate, and Employment and Human Rights disputes. She acts for commercial landlords and tenants, property managers, real estate owners and developers, strata corporations, employers, employees and insurers.

 

As a LAA/ Legal Assistant your core responsibilities are to provide best-in-class administrative and collaborative support to your lawyer.  You must have strong technical and analytical skills and be confident in your ability to deliver. To thrive in this role, you must be driven and hardworking. You must think critically and act logically. You must have in-depth knowledge of legal practices, legal terminology, and the Rules of Civil Procedure. This practice is essentially paperless.

 

Responsibilities: include preparing and drafting legal documents, forms, applications, lists, pleadings and correspondence. Communicating with clients and opposing counsel. • File maintenance: opening and closing files. Scheduling meetings, discoveries and trials (although she doesn’t do as many trials and is more of an advocate). • File management including organizing and managing documents, updating binders and filing. •  Prepare bills, trust statements, accounts and general accounting requests.  Keep the lawyer organized and updated is critical! General administrative duties as needed.

 

Qualifications: • A Legal Administrative Assistant and/or paralegal certificate is preferred. • Previous law firm experience is required. • Proficient in administrative procedures. • Ability to multitask and exercise initiative and good judgement. • Ability to work in a team environment and independently. • Knowledge of Elite 3E would be an asset, as well as Filesite DMS and Office 365. • Flexible and adaptable to changing work demands, volumes, and schedules. • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Excellent accuracy and organization skills. • A professional demeanour, with the utmost commitment to confidentiality.
