SENIOR DIRECTOR, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
BC REGION (VANCOUVER OFFICE)

Fasken is looking for a dynamic Senior Director of Professional Development to join our team in British Columbia. This integral role plays a significant part in supporting the core operations of our business, focusing on the regional coordination of talent services for legal professionals.
You will be integral in championing continuing professional development programs, career development and capacity management, performance management, and overall talent retention and acquisition strategies. You will spearhead our student and associate programs, with responsibility for the entire cycle from hiring and mentoring to training, work assignment, and performance reviews. The role also has responsibility for EDI and wellness initiatives, in addition to other special projects.
Your mission will be to provide proactive, value-added advice and services, ensuring that Fasken optimizes the contributions of our most valuable assets—our people—and maintains our reputation as an employer of choice in Canada's legal services sector.

Reporting directly to the BC Regional Managing Partner, and working in collaboration with the General Manager, Committee Chairs, Business Unit Managers, and the Senior Director of Human Resources, you will align our strategic objectives with Fasken’s vision, all while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where legal and business professionals thrive.

Qualifications:
• Possess an LL.B. or J.D. degree.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience at a comparable level within a law firm setting.

Skills & Knowledge:
• Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with an aptitude for effective communication.
• Proficient in planning, organizing, and managing projects, programs, and operations.
• Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
• Highly organized with an attention to detail.
• Capable of developing strategic initiatives and delivering supporting tactics.
• Knowledgeable in HR best practices and employment law.
• Well-versed in the Law Society of BC's rules, regulations, and guidelines.
• Acquainted with law school recruitment cycles and procedures.
• Savvy in marketing, relationship-building, and enhancing firm profile.
• Exceptional time management skills, able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• A collaborative team player who also thrives when working independently.
• Proactively builds business-critical relationships and navigates organizational dynamics.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with a strong aptitude for learning new computer and information systems.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $175,000-$205,000 annually; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
