Owen Bird Law Corporation is a downtown, full-service, mid-sized law firm committed to providing exceptional service and outstanding results for our clients.

We are currently seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Trust Clerk to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of LSBC trust accounting rules & regulations. This position reports to the Accounting Supervisor.

 In this role your responsibilities will include:        

Trust Account Management:

  • Maintain accurate records of all trust transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, investments, and transfers
  • Reconcile trust accounts on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and compliance with Law Society rules and guidelines
  • Coordinate the disbursement of inactive trust funds
  • Analyze and address stale-dated cheques
  • Monitor trust balances and alert stakeholders of any discrepancies or concerns
  • Facilitate the opening and closing of trust accounts
  • Assist with updating all bank records with signing authorities as necessary

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Stay current on trust accounting regulations and standards set forth by the Law Society of BC
  • Gather information for T3 filings for auditors 
  • Prepare annual CDIC reporting for Trust funds
  • Assist in the completion of annual trust audits

Client Interaction:

  • Serve as a point of contact for lawyers, support staff, contacts for financial institutions and clients regarding trust-related inquiries and transactions.
  • Provide clients with clear and accurate information regarding trust account activity and balances.

Other Administrative/Accounting Support:

  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed to support the operations of the accounting department, including coverage for other accounting functions.

Here is what you bring to the team:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in trust accounting in a law firm.
  • Diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of trust accounting principles and regulations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 and is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including an RRSP Matching Program.
