We are about 30 people and use BMC as well. The tipping point for in-house IT will vary from firm to firm. My issue is that it is near impossible to hire someone who is both good at help desk and on network admin. There is also the issue of coverage during vacation. There are companies out there who you can contract and have an on-site IT person, with vacation backup, and they will also provide network administration support.
