We have 22 trust accounts to reconcile monthly. I have one of the 22 that yes I do reconcile daily and one that I reconcile weekly. I do this for 2 reasons. 1. The bank will cash stale dated cheques. If we don’t catch the stale cheques within 48 hours it becomes our problem not the banks. I don’t get this reasoning but it is what it is. 2. Our daily bank reconciliation for this particular account is 1-3 pages long so if I didn’t do this it would take more time to reconcile at month end than by doing it daily. We check all accounts daily to make sure all the deposits are accounted for and also for cheque numbers that look suspiciously out of place.
