We are currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant. This position will directly report to the Director of Finance. Successful candidates will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience as an accountant in the legal industry. The minimum education requirements for this position is a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting or finance. Preference will be given to candidates who possess their professional designation (CPA).

This is a permanent and full-time position, hours will be Monday through Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. We offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity with a competitive compensation and benefit package. Responsibilities:

  • Oversight on all trust accounting with the Firm ensuring compliance with all requirements as set out by the Law Society of BC.
  • Bill process lead (posting, managing trust transfers, WIP review, write-off process, etc.) collaboration with Billing Coordinator and AR Specialist to complete the monthly billing cycle in a timely manner.
  • Prepares month end GL account reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reviews AP weekly AP run.
  • Responsible for regulatory reporting requirements including PST, GST, EHT, and WCB. 
  • Prepares financial reports and assists with budgeting as requested by senior leadership.
  • Implements and maintains best accounting practices.
  • Manages escalated billing and accounting matters.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an accountant in the legal industry.
  • Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in accounting or finance.
  • Professional CPA designation or current enrollment in CPA PEP preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience with trust accounting practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Word and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, Acumin preferred.
  • Experience with document management systems, Worldox is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (external and internal) with the ability to develop positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong client service skills.
  • Discretion in managing confidential information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent (and demonstrable) attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems and approach with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Excellent (and demonstrable) analytical and organization skills.
